About

The Tai Lue began migrating from southern China in the 15th century, and are known for their intricate silk and cotton textiles. They practice a mix of animism and Buddhism, and most villages have a temple and monks.

A colorful mix of fact and folklore reveal Sayaboury’s past, which reaches back some 700 years. Most religious and natural sites have an interesting history embellished by legend. Ethnic diversity also marks Sayaboury, including small communities of rarely seen Phrai and Iu Mien.

This website aims to inform visitors about Sayaboury’s highlights, and how best to see and do them. It presents the various districts, their attractions, and the anecdotes behind them. The journey may be testing, but this truly authentic Lao experience delivers memories of a lifetime.
