Khmu New Year celebrations will take place in a village close to Luang Prabang town to be held on December 15, 2017 and involve colourful costumes, dance, song and traditional games. The New Year is a time for the Khmu people to gather and give thanks to their ancestors for their good health, harvest and peaceful community. It’s also a time to pray for harmony for the coming year.

A colorful mix of fact and folklore reveal Sayaboury’s past, which reaches back some 700 years. Most religious and natural sites have an interesting history embellished by legend. Ethnic diversity also marks Sayaboury, including small communities of rarely seen Phrai and Iu Mien.

This website aims to inform visitors about Sayaboury’s highlights, and how best to see and do them. It presents the various districts, their attractions, and the anecdotes behind them. The journey may be testing, but this truly authentic Lao experience delivers memories of a lifetime.
